In the Plaza Revolución of the city of Huejutla is a monumental clock whose structure dates from the early twentieth century, has a musical system that plays every hour the song "El Cantador", by the huasteco author, Nicandro Castillo.
In order to commemorate the centennial of Mexico's Independence, Porfirio Diaz issued a decree announcing the construction of a commemorative building in each port and city of the country.1 It was inaugurated in 1908.2 The clock was bought in Germany by Andrade Herrera with the endorsement of the then governor Pedro L. Rodriguez.1
